Yes!

Even the music sounds like Streets of Rage! This is fantastic. An excellent tribute to the old school games.

gavD responds:

Thanks MasterGehn!

Music is by Vibration White Finger - go check 'em out and leave a message on their guestbook, they'll appreciate it!

Hell Yeah! Nice Job!

Definitely a Magic The Gathering feel! This is pretty cool! Nice actionscripting, too! Are all the cards random or is there some sort of array of cards that each player gets, like their own deck? I'm curious as to how you created this....let me know if you can...

Maguas responds:

There are two arrays of 5 cards, one for each player. The chances of getting a good card are the same for you and the opponent and the same in all levels. The difference between levels is that on levels 0 and 1 the opponent chooses randomly between his 5 cards then the card he chosed is replaced by another random card. On upper levels apart form the rising of life and the new cards, the opponent now chooses the card he is going to play wisely ;) , there is an IA quite refined, enough to make higher levels quite difficult if the opp. gets good cards.
Another aspect is that the 5 cards you see on your side are each of them a complete deck so I only have to turn visible the card chosen. Thanks a lot for your review and I hope I've helped you.

A good start but it's still a start

It looks like you have the making of a good fighting game, but you really need to work on the graphics and sound, which I'm sure you realize. I really don't get the blob-like enemies that move towards you and then turn into normal human bodies when they die...what's up with that? And the enemies don't even attack you, so what's the point, you're always going to win?
Make it look pretty, and maybe add some powerups or other features and add some sound. It just doesn't look finished. But like I said, it's a good start.

wallpaperman responds:

THANKYOU MATE, if you want the finished version watch "swordsman 5: the game"

I like this!

Much better than one of the billion dressup games people submit here. You should continue to develop this; add backgrounds and things like that.

vonDark responds:

Yep, I will make V2 much better

I agree with the last guy...

...there seems to be a bunch of this type of Flash appearing...NG needs to make the help section a little more prominent.

Pilot-Doofy responds:

Thanks man. I'm glad you appreciated it. I think they should make a collection for tutorials like they did for the clock, lock, drugs, and other "collection" submissions.

Nice Job!

I didn't play the whole thing, but I definitely liked what I saw. As others have said, you definitely nailed down the feel of GTA3...even though Vice City is better, I still played the shit out of some GTA3...*misty eyed*
Anyway, I would learn some more actionscript if I were you and try to make this a little more interactive than point and click. HOWEVER, I know from personal experience that doing so can be frustrating, so try to add some more 1st person shooting elements in the game; I'm sure you could do that fairly easy and it doesn't take a lot of code.
It's obvious that you put quite a bit of work into this; the illustrations are great! Just work on the experience a little more...maybe structure this like a Choose Your Own Adventure story or something. This is all just constructive criticism...don't give up on this game quite yet. The more you can hold NG user's interest, the better chances you'll have of making the front page!

Krackers responds:

Yeah I've been working on the action script for quite some time now, but this game has been in the works so long that I decided to just submit it by the end of March. So I did. Don't worry, next time I'll make better use of good 'ol action script. And I'll incorperate more 1st person shooter stuff too. Thanks for the helpful review.

Not bad!

I do appreciate the work you put into this...nevertheless, it's not like this Flash was really great visually or had lots of interactivity. But, on a good note, I feel like Tom and Wade Fulp should take note of these instructional Flash movies that talk about points and experience and either use yours or create a really good one for the site. I gave you 3/5 b/c it was very informative.

Pilot-Doofy responds:

Thanks, I emailed liljim about my tutorials and stuff, I'm still waiting on a response.

Your intentions are good...but...

First of all, the sound is SOOOOOO annoying! It starts over after every click! Good God, get rid of it!
There IS something to be said about the need for explaining the NG points system if the site isn't doing a good job of teaching people. But this wasn't the prettiest way.

Pilot-Doofy responds:

Thanks, sort of, I guess. Oh well, fuck off. :-)

This is kinda cool!

Very Interesting...I like the atmosphere. I would change the way the text looks on the screen. Around the edges it's a little hard to read b/c the background gets in the way. Where did you get the music from? Sounds like some sort of remix...I heard the Trigun guitar riff thrown in there...pretty cool!

VirulentShuriken responds:

Thx!! to the top left corner there is a little speaker icon, hover the mouse on it to see the music credits.

A good start!

This could be a pretty badass game...I think the controls are a little awkward...instead of using the arrows to move, try using the W,A,S and D keys. That way you can get to the gun a little easier when you use space. Or just change the gun button as well. Just a suggestion. I think you could definitely polish this up a little. But good job overall.

TheComet responds:

I know, I may change the sword's moving completely since the enemies walk into the sword and die, lol.
I'll probably use that idea, I'll most likely make the sword stay with the mouse but you have to press a key to swing it (violently), and I'll probably make the shotgun the End key or CTRL :)
I may make a Laptop friendly version so people with laptops(there are more than I expected lol) can play without the awkwardness of using the mouse area.
Thx for the review.
To respond to my other reviews in one reply, this game was mildly rushed in a sense, and somewhat lost it's touch, but it's considered Xiao Xiao anyways. I'm making a true Xiao Xiao game with the Retarded Animal Babies, nearly identical to Xiao Xiao #6(I beleive that's the game) except it has a larger variety of attacks and such, plus it's somewhat humorous.
